VASAP Substance Abuse Treatment and Education

Under Virginia State Code 18.2-271.1, all DUI convictions must be completed immediately. Following a DUI conviction, a court orders a referral for admission into ASAP. A competent or licensed treatment practitioner must conduct an assessment as part of this 20-hour program, which focuses on substance abuse treatment in Virginia and its connections to addiction, health, and highway safety. The underlying premise of this approach is that individuals possess the ability to modify their behavior, provided they have the drive and resources to do so. Turning Point Intervention’s Virginia substance abuse treatment program usually consists of therapy, counseling, and education.  Attendance at individual counseling sessions, group therapy, and sessions may be mandatory.  They can also have to go to support group meetings or perform community service.

Our Process

Even if this is your first DUI, you will still be required to take part in VASAP as part of your punishment. Before starting these classes, you must wait to get the order mandating you to do so.  A course offered by a provider on the VASAP website is required of you.  This is how VASAP functions:

In Take

Intake is the initial step in the VASAP enrollment process. Your case manager would be in charge of figuring out how many hours of classes you need to finish. When you are allowed to drive on a restricted license, they will also determine whether you should sign up for drug and alcohol abuse counseling and give you a list of authorized providers to place an ignition interlock device on your car.

Classes

To learn how dependent you are on alcohol and how to behave differently to be a safe driver, you will have to attend educational classes. A minimum of ten weeks of two-hour sessions are required of you.

Testing For Drugs and Alcohol

It may be necessary for you to submit to a drug and alcohol test while taking the VASAP course.

A Probationary Period

Once you’ve finished the requisite 20-hour sessions, you could have to stay in VASAP on probation. You may be required to take additional drug and alcohol tests and will be evaluated for compliance with the interlock ignition requirement if you are allowed to drive.

Why Choose TPI’s VASAP Substance Abuse Treatment and Education Service?

Turning Point Intervention Virginia drug treatment specialists assist in negotiating treatment through VASAP so that you can avoid more severe repercussions. If you relapse while completing the program, we can also help. When someone relapses while enrolled in a VASAP program, they may be kicked out of the program and have to appear in court to explain their actions. The consequences of not completing VASAP may include jail time, fines, or license suspension. The Virginia Alcohol Action Program (VASAP), which is run by our certified substance abuse counselor Virginia, offers 16-week drug misuse education (SAE) classes to help people understand at-risk behaviors and the warning signs and symptoms of drug misuse. This program makes use of approved studies on how chemicals affect their capacity to sustain proper conduct.

Eligibility of Your VASAP Substance Abuse Treatment and Education

Most people who come to ASAP are sent by the court because they have a recent DUI conviction or a charge of dangerous driving related to alcohol rehab programs in Virginia. Some people may enroll in ASAP to fulfill unfinished criteria for their driver’s license because they have prior convictions on their driving record. The individual’s DMV compliance summary typically includes the necessity to attend an ASAP.
